Disability Editorial Services
Every writer deserves an editor who genuinely cares about their work. That’s where I come in! Whether you’re putting your own story into words, amplifying your organization’s work, or sharing your research with the world, I’m here to support you at every stage of your writing process.
Got a spark of an idea? A messy first draft? A manuscript in progress? I can meet you wherever you are on your journey and help you reach a final draft you’re truly proud to share.
With over a decade of professional editing experience and deep roots in the disability community, I bring rigorous editorial skill and genuine, lived understanding of disability to every project.
The Editorial Process
My editorial practice spans a range of content, including blog posts, news articles, personal essays, op-eds, reports and white papers, website and social media copy, internal and external organizational communications, speeches, and book manuscripts. Here’s how my process works:
- We connect for an initial chat.
We’ll start with a call or Zoom at your convenience so I can learn where you are in your writing process and we can determine whether it’s the right fit for us to work together. - We make a plan.
If you’re just starting out and need a brainstorming partner or an outline review, I’ve got you covered. If you’re already into the drafting process, I can work with you at every level, from line edits to bigger picture structural edits. We’ll set a timeline together. - I read and edit your work.
With your goals in mind, I’ll do a deep dive into your writing with a focus on clarity, flow, and overall impact. - You get my honest feedback.
You’ll get edits and comments from me directly in your draft (either in Google Docs or Microsoft Word). If any of my notes need further explanation, I’ll include that in an email. - We connect for follow-up.
We can do a round of follow-up via email or a call to answer your questions and make sure you feel set up to move forward. If the project is more in depth, we can decide together how often we need to touch base to meet your goals. - We polish the final draft together.
Before wrapping up our partnership, we’ll make sure you have a final version that truly shines.
What You Can Expect
- A disability-informed lens.
Whether disability is the heart of your writing or part of a broader message, I can help you communicate with nuance. - Transparent, explained feedback.
I always track changes, so you’ll have a clear picture of every edit I suggest. And I’ll be sure to explain my edits so you learn from the process, not just the result. - Thoughtful collaboration.
I’m here to ask questions, think alongside you, and bring out the best version of what you have to say. - Prioritizing your voice.
The goal isn’t make your writing sound like me; it’s to ensure your work feels authentic to you.
Rates
Every project is different, and I believe rates should reflect the actual scope of the work. Reach out and tell me what you’re working on, and we’ll take it from there. Looking for disability sensitivity reading services in addition to editing? I can provide that, too!
If we decide to work together after an initial call, I’ll send you a simple one-page agreement before we begin and invoice in full once we’ve wrapped up.

Let’s talk about your project, your process, and whether we’re the right fit to work together. I can’t wait to learn more!
Here’s what past collaborators have to say:
“Emily has an instinct for understanding what you’re trying to say and the skill to help you say it better. If you’re working in the accessibility or disability inclusion space and need someone who can hold the nuance, challenge your thinking, and still hand you back something that sounds like you, Emily is the person you want in your corner!”
– Keely Cat-Wells, CEO & Founder, Making Space
“When I was crafting my TEDx talk, I knew I needed not only an editor, but also a gut check. Emily was a godsend. She listened deeply, asked the right questions, and gave thoughtful, honest feedback. She edited with intention and an understanding of disability, which made such a huge difference not just in the content, but in my confidence in delivering it. Most importantly, she helped me sound more like me, not less. That’s a rare skill!”
– Pamela Rae Schuller, Advocate and Comedian
